St. Helena, Michigan
2001 National Lighthouse Day Event

Established in 1872 on St. Helena Island, this lighthouse served faithfully for many years.  In the 1980s it was not being used and had fallen into disrepair through neglect and vandalism.
In 1986 the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association took on the restoration of the lighthouse, and with the help of volunteers and Boy Scouts, they have brought it back to its original grandeur.
This unusual sculpture shows the neglected appearance in snow on one side, and the restored appearance in summer on the other side.  Boy Scout tents are shown as they labored to restore the lighthouse.
