This charming Victorian style lighthouse was first lit in 1874.   It was operational until the 1960s when the Coast Guard moved the optic to a nearby tower and abandoned the lighthouse.
In the 1980s the City of North Wildwood acquired the lighthouse, and restored it and operates it.

This historic lighthouse got its unusual name from the 14-feet of water that cover the dangerous shoal beneath. 
Serving maritime traffic between New Jersey  & Delaware, Delaware Bay is infamous for its treacherous shipping channel, and this particular shoal is nearly 6000 feet long and 1300 wide.
