Dave Fetty Originals!
A skilled glassworker, Dave Fetty retired
in 1999 after more than 40 years in the glass industry. Dave came to Fenton
Art Glass
in 1965 after learning the trade in Milton, WV, at the Blenko Glass Company,
where he began as a carrying-in boy when he was 19. Dave's mentor at Blenko
was glassworker "Shorty" Finley, who taught Dave many of the skills needed
to make glass off-hand (without moulds).
In the mid-1970s, Dave worked with glass artisan Robert
Barber, helping to design and create some of Fenton's first limited edition
pieces.
Even after his "official" retirement, Dave
has continued to contribute to Fenton. During 2000, he worked closely with
the glassworkers who produced a "Hanging Hearts" vase for the Connoisseur
Collection. His contribution to the Collection in 2002 was his Favrene
Feathers Vase.
Dave continues to work at Fenton
Glass, producing some really special limited pieces. |

"Maiden
Fern" Sand
Carved Vase |
|
in
Multi-Colored Mosaic Glass & Black Satin |
| Art Glass Collectors
worldwide appreciate the Cameo Artistry of Kelsey Murphy
and Robert Bomkamp. |
| In this outstanding
vase, they have collaborated with Fenton Master Glass
Artisan Dave Fetty to create a dramatic piece of art
glass. Each vase will be different and unique in
coloration. |
| |
| Mosaic glass begins
with black glass gathered on a blowpipe, and then a
special technique is used to apply frit (bits of colored
glass) to the piece before it is blown in a mould.
Murphy & Bomkamp have sand-carved the design into the
vase, and the remaining black has a matte satin finish
applied. |
| The vase is embossed
with Dave Fetty's stamp and is inscribed with the
signatures of Kelsey Murphy & Robert Bomkamp.
Each vase is hand numbered on the bottom. |

"Whimsical Elephant" by Dave Fetty |
| in
Cobalt Blue, Back, & Crystal |
|
2004 Centennial Collection |
|
Tom Fenton Signature |
|
| Tom Fenton
has worked closely with Dave Fetty & his team of skilled
glassworkers for many years. To showcase the talents of Dave
and some of our artisans, Tom has selected a whimsical off hand
elephant. |
| This
handsome animal is formed from a gather of Milk Glass rolled in
Cobalt Blue frit before being covered with a layer of Crystal glass. Black glass
threads are then applied & pulled to create a feathered effect.
A black glass trunk & head are hand-shaped with special tools. The
finishing touch is the application of two lime green eyes & a slight
pinch to replicate the elephant's tiny tail. |
|
There is the special bottom stamp by Dave Fetty. |
